Pre-season Training starts this Wednesday!

This Tuesday is Valentines Day, and what better gift can you give to your loved one than the promise of a new and improved Adonis. No one to promise this to? No problem, there’s a good chance you’ll probably meet her later on in the year at the Roxy at 2am where you’ll be able to woo her with stories of how earlier in the day you dominated on the footy field!

How can I do this you ask? Simple. The time has come for you to undo all the damage you’ve done over the off-season! Saints pre-season training begins this Wednesday the 15th of February (and every Wednesday after that). If you find yourself in the above situation, or simply want to get fit and enjoy some fresh air, come and join us.

For now we will be meeting at our sponsor pub, The Sin Bin (295 West 2nd Ave Vancouver), until we move to our regular training ground Jonathon Rogers Park. Start time will be 6 pm, just bring runners and some water.

The West Coast Saints are currently looking for players, supporters and social members of all abilities and backgrounds, for the up and coming 2012 season and beyond. Whether you have had a footy in your hands since you could walk, or you have no idea what this Aussie Rules caper is all about, we’d love to have you on board.

The season runs from April to September, with 9 regular season games plus finals, a handful of tournaments and road trips, along with plenty of social events to fill in the time between.

I would like to advise that the Saints Annual General Meeting will be held on the 14th of Jan at 12.30 pm at the Sin Bin. If you are available please come by as we would love your input for the upcoming season. In saying that we will be looking for nominations for all positions; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Operations Manger and general members.

Best and Fairest Presentaion Night

Join us at the Sin Bin on Friday October 28th at 7.30pm for the West Coast Saints night of nights, where we will crown this years club champion (among many other awards) and wrap up the season that was, in true Saints style!

Tickets are $10, which gets you VIP red carpet entry, a delicious feed and entry into the door prize draws!

Dress to impress, and Wives/Girlfriends/Partners are more than encouraged to attend!

Preliminary Final this weekend!

After a narrow win in the elimination final against the North Delta Bayhawks, this weekend the West Coast Saints will again take on the Vancouver Cougars in the BCAFL preliminary final.

What would a season here in BC be without what is becoming one of the most epic traditional clashes!

2pm Saturday afternoon will see the first bounce down at the picturesque Langley Stadium (D.W.Poppy Elementary). This game is sure to be a spectacle for young and old, so make sure you get out to cheer your favourite team (the Saints obviously!) into the 2011 Grand Final!

All players need to be at the ground by no later than 12pm, we will be leaving the Commercial/Broadway Safeway at 11am.

Post game celebrations will be held at the Sin Bin, so clear your schedules, it’s going to be a big day followed by a big night!

Elimination Final this weekend

This weekend is the first round of finals for the 2011 BCAFL season, where the West Coast Saints Football Club will take on the North Delta Bayhawks in a game that will see one side move on to the preliminary final, and the other getting a chance to brush up their golf game.

Needless to say, this will be the biggest game for the Saints so far this year, so we’ll need everyone to get out there to help out. D.W.Poppy Secondary is the location, with the game starting at 3pm after the qualifying final between the Cougars and Eagles. All Saints players need to be at the ground by no later than 1pm, and we will be carpooling from Commercial/Broadway Safeway leaving at 12pm sharp.

After the game we will be heading to the Sin Bin for post match drinks and presentations.

Captain Clay named Captain Canada

It gives us great pleasure to announce that the Captain of the West Coast Saints Football Club, Clayton Holmes, has been awarded the honour of captaining the Canadian National team, the Northwind, in the up and coming 2011 AFL International Cup.

Clayton has been a member of and captain of the Saints since the clubs inception, and in that time has shown that he is a worthy recipient of this new title.

Clayton, along with fellow Saints Sean Hayes and Scott Fleming will be traveling to Sydney and Melbourne in August to represent their country in the International Cup a tournament played out between the best players from 18 different countries.

We wish the lads the best, and are sure they will represent both the Saints and Canada well, and show off to the world just how great footy here in BC is!

Round 6 Footy

After a great weekend away in the sunny Okanagan, it’s time to get back down to business! Round 6 of BC Footy will take place this weekend at D.W.Poppy Secondary out in Langley, with the Eagles taking on the Cougars at 1pm, followed by the Mighty West Coast Saints looking for our second win for the year against the North Delta Bayhawks at 3pm.

Post game drinks and presentations will be held at The Sin Bin

Kelowna Cup

The Kelowna Cup, an annual round robin tournament played between footy teams from BC and Alberta in the beautiful Okanagan Valley (4 hours east of Vancouver) is taking place on Saturday June 4th. This is a great opportunity to play footy against a couple of different teams and a chance to get out of Vancouver and explore a bit more of BC. Ask anyone who has been in the past, and they’ll tell you it is a great trip to go on.

We’d like to get a full team to represent the Saints in this tournament, so if you are interested, please let Wardy or Joysy know (phone or email – http://westcoastsaints.com/contact), and for those not interested, perhaps reconsider! As it is coming up rather quickly, we’ll need to sort out transport and accommodation asap.

Round 5 vs The Eagles

Round 5 of BC Footy takes place this weekend with a huge game for the Saints against the undefeated Eagles. The game will again be at D.W.Poppy Secondary in Langley, starting at 3pm. We will be car pooling as usual, leaving the Commercial/Broadway Safeway at 1pm, so if you are driving, or need a ride, please be there by no later than 12.45pm. Post match Presentations and Drinks will be held at Moose’s Downunder.
